Our client is the UK leading provider of Internet Services. They have a need for a Linux Developer to join their team.
You will be joining the existing Research and Development team which is responsible for the development of our hosting platform, hosted services and products.
You will be an accomplished analyst*programmer and have experience of system architecture design, back end server development and a firm grasp of OO techniques.
The primary skills for the role are as follows:
• 3+ years commercial C*C++ experience including a comprehensive understanding of modern C++ (including OO techniques, standard library containers, templates and exceptions)
• Ability to understand and modify open source projects such as Apache and Samba at the C code level
• 1+ years experience with PHP or Python including OO techniques
• 3+ years experience in installing, configuring and trouble-shooting Linux. Fault-finding should include the ability to trace issues to the system-call level.
It would also be an advantage to have experience of the following:
• VoIP, especially customising open source VoIP applications like Asterisk
• Ability to create custom RPM or Debian packages.
• Bash shell scripting.
• Some SQL ability
• Knowledge of MySQL and*or PostgreSQL
The right candidate will be bright, very self motivated, adaptable, able to work under pressure and posses superb communication skills.
You will be able to lead development projects to completion working with all levels of staff up to board level.
You will be very commercially focused and always consider the wider implications on the business of the work you carry out.
